Oil and gas are considered as sources of primary energy and is used in the form as is found from under the earth’s surface. Oil and gas are in their raw states and can be in the form of renewable and no-renewable items. The main ingredient in oil and gas is petroleum. Petroleum is changed to a fuel that is rich in energy that can provide the consumer with a way to heat, cool, cook, and run their vehicle.
Oil is known in the world of petroleum as crude oil and is labeled by where it is extracted from. It is also rated by the amount of thickness it has and the amount of sulfur it contains. Low sulfur content is called sweet and high sulfur is called sour. The crude oil with less density is labeled as light and those which are heavier are high. The area from where the oil was extracted is important in determining the price as it might cost more to get the oil from the well to the refinery to process. Gas is created from crude oil which is light because it gives a better gasoline mixture. Sweet crude oil will cost more to produce than the sour because of the lower amount of problems created to the environment and the lower amount of refining it takes to produce it.
Natural gas, or gas, is known as a fossil fuel and is largely made up of methane. It has smaller amounts of helium, propane, nitrogen, pentane, carbon dioxide, ethane, hydrogen sulfide, and butane in the mix. Fossil fuels have to product the methane gas through the natural decay of materials in the ground. This natural gas, like crude oil is also found in various oil fields that are dissolved or in remote areas and coal beds containing methane. It can also be found in its own natural gas fields but the chances of this are smaller in comparison to the other choices.
Natural gas, in some cases must be depressurized before it can come out of the earth’s surface to ensure the safety and care of those working on those mines. It must also be processed to remove all other ingredients except for the methane before it can be used to generate energy for use in cars, appliances, and other items. For this reason, natural gas is not a pure product. The other material removed can be used to produce other products that are useful for the consumer such as butane for lighters and propane for grills. Occasionally, helium and nitrogen are found in this natural gas extraction process and can me used for blowing up balloons and other such functions.
